A Day in the Life: Matthew Bowers (European Business Development Manager)

DSC_9547thumbnailMy name is Matthew Bowers and I am a European Business Development Manager here at Radwell UK.

My primary role is to manage the growth in terms of sales for three of our biggest European Markets: France, Spain and Italy. This is not something I do on my own. I have a team of 4 linguists who work with me on a day to day basis to achieve what needs to be done.

My career started with Radwell nearly 7 years ago. This was my first career job that I had since graduating from University.

On a typical day, the first thing we do is get together as a team. We look at our successes from the day before, anything we need to investigate it further, and where there is room for improvement.

We then get to work on the job at hand. We work hard to keep all the customers satisfied and keep everything moving as best as we can. We have meetings throughout the rest of the day with various different departments to make sure we are all working together.

Towards the end of the day, we’re looking at what we can get out the door, what do customers need tomorrow, what do they need tonight? It’s all push, push, push at the end of the day.

DSC_9548thumbnail2We are the face of the company and so we are the first port of call for all customers. I really like that there is so much customer interaction, whether it be on the phone, email, or in person. This interaction could be with customers in the UK, or it could be in France, Spain, Italy. That is definitely the best part of the job.

We have an after-hours line, so we are available for our customers 24/7. Its nonstop and that’s exactly how we like it.

No day at Radwell is ever the same so it’s difficult to really know when my favorite part of the day actually is. It could be that I am on-site visiting a customer, exhibiting at a trade show, working independently, or working as part of a team. But ultimately my favorite part of the day is achieving whatever set of tasks we have together as a team. I think that’s the best part for me.

Within my role it’s very clear to see if your doing a good job or not. You can measure it based on the sales that your contributing or by customer satisfaction. The fact that it is so visible for everybody to see is what drives me to be the best that I could possibly be.

And that is a day in a life of a European Business Development Manager at Radwell UK.
